Rejected To Cambridge 2010

Bugatti 57S Gangloff DHC de Spark

Until 1934, each Bugatti is designed with its own chassis to which he attached a body to suit the client. In an attempt to reduce the costs of each model, as sales of large Royale Type 41 and Type 50 were very modest, Ettore Bugatti decided to design a single chassis available with various body types. Jean Bugatti, Ettore's young son of only 23 years, would lead to the development team of the new generation of models.

The Type 57 was released in 1936 and was available in four body styles, three of them were called as some of the most famous peaks of the Alps, the Ventoux (two-door coupe), Stelvio (two-door cabriolet) and Galibier (four-door sedan). The fourth variant is denomianĂ³ Atalante, the latter being the most exclusive of all. The Type 57 incorporated a new eight-cylinder in line DOHC inspired by those used by the Type 50 and 59 of the competition. Cubed 3.3 liters yielding 135 horsepower in naturally aspirated version.

In August 1936 he presented a new variant Type 57S, the French word 'sousbaisse', referring to a new lower and wider frame that emphasized the car's sporty character . The new distribution of the axes relative to the center of the car (the chassis was 32 cm shorter than the standard 57) sought to better handling car. The 57S outfitting a revised engine 3.3-liter eight-cylinder 170 hp yielding, although more power was demanded was the possibility of incorporating a Roots compressor that gave him 40 hp more.

The model we treat is the Type 57S chassis numbered 57,563. It was commissioned by a wealthy textile merchant, Levyn Phillipe, a French-Swiss company Gangloff bodywork. In 1949 the car was sold in the United States and after several ownership changes became part of the collection of designer Ralph Lauren in 1986, it underwent a thorough restoration specialist led by Paul Russell.

Spark is a brand that we have spoken many times on this blog and so far had been specializing in sports and racing cars both classic and current. Aware of the importance of meeting market niches neglected by other manufacturers, has launched a new product line dedicated to the American classics of the 50, which we showed recently a Chevrolet Impala 59, and another dedicated to European classics of the Belle Epoque, or in the early 30's. Today we show here the first example of this new series, the beautiful Bugatti 57S Gangloff has a replica of Ralph Lauren, a model very well done and has the usual good finish thumbnails Spark, which stand out above all the ornaments made etched material. It is also very successful in itself the choice of model, little or no thumbnail.
